“Now, that is interesting,” commented the bartender as he resumed wiping down the glasses and placing them on the shelf. “He doesn’t have a moral code.”
“What is a moral code anyway?” asked Joel as he took another sip of his beer.
John set down his personalized beer mug. “A moral code is a set of rules or principles that guide a person's or a group's understanding of right and wrong conduct.” He paused as he considered this. “Sort of like the discussions we have around here.”
“We have principles?” asked George. “The last Principal I saw asked me to leave the building.”
“You didn’t know right from wrong?” inquired Joel.
“Ideally,” replied George. “But the rules of conduct changed and not in my favour.”
“So they weren’t conducive to learning?” reflected John.
“Let’s say what I was learning didn’t fall within their moral code.” replied George.
“So you followed your own moral code?” questioned the bartender with some concern.
“Everyone more or less follows their own moral code,” reflected George.
Joel added, “but it is within a larger moral code for society.”
“That sounds complicated.” reflected the bartender.
“The question of a moral code is questionable.” stated John.
“Indubitably.” commented Joel.
“Who established it? “ asked John.
“Who enforces it?” asked Joel
“Exactly.” replied George
“I know the moral code around here,” said Joel.
“What is that?” inquired the bartender.
“Buy more beer or go home,” he replied to gales of laughter.
