Summer Dreaming

Prompt by: THE FICTION DEALER: Microdosing Fiction - 90mg of Summer

He could sense the warm ground under his bare feet. He noticed the chair he had placed under the tree, a good book on its arm. The sunshine touched his soul, lifting his spirits. He looked over at his garden and could feel the warm loam falling through his fingers. He pictured the warm winds whooshing through his hair as he rode his bicycle the five miles to the library.
With a sigh, he knew that four months was too long to wait. Soon he would be outside once again.

The flight was delayed for hours. She rested while she could. Becky would need all the energy she could gather for this homecoming. In the five years she had been away everything and nothing had changed. Her siblings had pointed out the necessity of being a family one last time. After much contemplation she decided that they were right. She needed to be there to say goodbye and ease her mind of all the accumulated pain. She could not forgive but she could cleanse her memory and once again begin the task of recovering who she was one final time.

As she walked up to the farm gate Susan could hear a whinny accompanied by a bark. Before too long Buttercup, her mare, came galloping at full speed across the field accompanied by Satisfaction, her foal. As Buttercup leaned her head over the fence for a nuzzle, Shep came bounding along the fenceline barking and yelping with a glee that could never be understated. Susan looked over at Buttercup before hauling herself to the top of the fence. As she placed one foot over the back of Buttercup she sighed with anticipation. It was good to be home.
Misreading The Room

Red roses sat in their vases, row by row for the entire length of the room.
βThey really are quite lovely,β intoned a woman dressed in black. βI wonder what they are for?β she asked no one in particular.
βIndeed,β I wondered as we were the only two in the room.
The Priest entered through a side door and walked to the top of the hill that overlooked the lake.
βDearly departed, we are gathered here today to raise the recently dead to continue the proposed marriage,β
I looked around the beach more carefully wondering where the Bride and Groom were located.
βOf this man,β he continued, indicating me, βand this woman,β he said, indicating the woman who was now standing by my side dressed in her funeral clothes.
I gulped slowly before I faded across dimensions, waking at precisely the right moment. Sweating, I rolled over and said to my wife. βYou wonβt believe this dream.β

βBreathe in slowly.β A pause. βNow exhale very slowly.β
With each breath the fog cleared. I opened my eyes to blinding lights. Faces invaded the space in front of me. I looked at each one while performing my breathing exercises. I could feel cold seeping into my back.
βWhat happened to me?β I asked in between breaths as my mind calmed and my breathing stabilized.
βYou tumbled head first into the boards,β replied my coach. βYour panic grew from there.β
Half A Battery
January 23, 2025
From a prompt: Microdosing Fiction: Microdosing Fiction - 90mg of a Battery
I stood looking at half of one of the most famous batteries ever. The concentration on his face was thick. His eyes showed signs of anger. This was not one of those moments where it is batter vs pitcher. In his eyes it was clear that I was a piece of scum about to be wiped off the face of the earth. The pitch came inside. I jumped back.
βBall one,β was the umps cry.
The next pitch brushed my chin.
He had not gotten over my homerun, I gathered.

A voice from across the room made Evanβs head swivel. Once their eyes met there was no losing contact. What should have been a brief discussion turned into hours of intense, humorous, and fulfilling dialogue. Another world opened and the possibilities were unlimited.. Katrina filled his heart with endless love.

As Ross looked across the aisle his heart ached. While they would never politically agree, her vibrant discussions and sense of humor took his heart to places he never knew existed. There had to be a way to reach her.
Zoe looked over, smiled, and patted the seat beside her.
