Prompt: Mysteriously Damaged Photo Prompt
Write a story explaining why the face of this woman was cut out, and in a heart shape.
Sally sighed as her fragile hands shakily picked up the photograph.
She looked at the eager faces of her great grandchildren and smiled. “This picture was taken at my grandparents’ farm. I had gone there for the summer to help my grandmother with chores around the house. That was where I met your great grandfather.”
“Why is your face missing?” asked Ian.
Sally took a sip of water as she gathered her thoughts. “My husband to be wanted a picture of me. He had this old brownie camera. I had been sitting on the fender of his car…”
“That’s a car?” asked Sam.
“An old Ford. So he snapped the picture. Later he cut out my face from the picture. Said it was the prettiest face he had ever seen. He put my face into his wallet.”
“Why keep the picture with the face cut out?” asked Connie.
“There are still memories in that picture,” Sally replied, then thought to herself, “The untold story will have to wait for another time.” She smiled. “Cookies anyone?”
