The Constant Change

“I would change every single thing that I have ever written if I had a chance to do it all over again,” said Sonya as she sat sipping her glass of wine”
Judy looked at her with a smile. “Welcome to the world of authoring,”
Sonya wrinkled her nose at the thought. “I am an author. What do you mean by saying this?”
Judy picked up her glass of wine and swirled it. “Until you get to the realization that you would rewrite great swaths of your completed writing, you are simply an author, someone who writes. Once you have had that realization you join another level of authors. Most of the better authors feel that way about their work. Something about each piece they have written doesn’t work for them. At that point they have reached a different level of writing but it is also a false realization. They are at a different point in their lives. Their perspective has shifted and they have grown, both as a person and an author. Of course they would rewrite their life’s work. They are not the same person they once were.”
Sonya gave this some thought. “They are more in tune with their craft, their thought processes and what it takes to put words down on paper.”
“Yes and more specific about how they want to say what they are writing. They know more, see more and understand their lives. Their perspectives have changed.”
“I can see that,” replied Sonya as she pulled out her laptop.
“An idea?” observed Judy.
“I’ll be a minute. I need to get this thought down.”
Judy smiled as she looked out the restaurant window, taking in the events happening on the street, her thoughts creating dialogue for what she was seeing.

If only we could remake our life choices after having gained new perspectives.
