Prompt For: Stories from the Jukebox
Prompt by: Dr. Jennifer Haddock, the Everyday Behaviorist,
Prompt #45: The Water Buffalo Song by Larry the Cucumber(Veggie Tales)
From 1989 to 2002 I wrote musicals for the students in my schools to perform. Some were very good. We were always complimented on providing earworms to those who heard the songs. I enjoyed writing the lyrics but I depended on my friends for the musical portion. By 2002 I was severely burned out but still had a desire to write songs. I wrote a number of lyrics. Up to and including today I still do.
A couple of weeks ago I posted a poem (lyric). and was asked if it was a song. I responded it could be if I found the right program to help me. She suggested SUNO. I tried it and was hooked. I was able to do the thing I wanted to do most and have continued to explore making music since that day. I am learning so much!
I don’t want to get into the AI discussion. It is no longer germaine as AI is already here. It’s how we use it that is important. To my way of thinking it is the same thing I heard when microwave ovens came into play as well as many other ‘new’ technologies. We got over those concerns and will with this. I used AI here to continue something I did with others long ago. Now I can do it myself. I kinda like that.
All song lyrics were written by me. It is AI music with my instructions on how I wanted it to sound. I learn something new about AI everyday.
Wyatt’s Story
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Rachel stated loud and clear.
“What?” said Zach with some surprise in his voice. His eyes however were reflecting a touch of mirth.
Rachel surveyed him carefully. She started to point her finger but quickly retracted it. “You’re at it again.”
Zach guffawed rather loudly. “No I’m not.”
“What are you working on then?”
Zach had a pained look on his face. He looked at his computer and then turned his eyes back to his wife. “Alright,” said with a touch of regret and then pasted a smile on his face.”
“The other day Beth,” he began.
“Our neighbour Beth?” Rachel asked.
“One and the same. She asked me to come up with a silly kids song for Wyatt’s birthday.”
“A silly kids song?” Rachel looked mystified. “Why a silly kids song?”
“Apparently Wyatt loves the Buffalo Song from Veggie Tales”
“Veggie Tales? Isn’t he a little old for that?”
Zach grinned broadly. “Apparently it is something that never leaves your brain once you hear it. Beth told me she likes it too.”
Rachel’s eyes grew large. “No!”
“Oh yeah. That and all the other Veggie Tales songs.”
“So what have you come up with?” asked Rachel as she moved over to sit beside Zach and look at his computer.
“I don’t think I can write a Veggie Tales song.”
“Why not?”
“I tried Gordie The Dysmorphic Giraffe. I had to let it go.” Zach had a goofy smile.
“Dysmorphic was probably a bit too much.”
“Then I tried The Carrot Cake Song.”
The Carrot Cake Song I saw a Carrot Cake Walking down the street The type of Carrot Cake All would like to meet. Aroma of certain splendor Carrot icing too People were sent drooling Running with a fork and spoon
Rachel wrinkled her nose. “Interesting. Is there more?’
“I couldn’t finish it. So I moved on.”
It’s Cold The wind is blowing It’s cold The snow is falling It’s cold It’s a great day to find some steel It’s a great day to do what I feel Don’t do it said Bob Don’t do it said Larry Your lips will get stuck Said a worried Barry.
“And then I stopped. I couldn’t finish it.”
“Who wants to hear a song about getting your lips stuck to a steel post? It would make some kids want to try it.”
“True. True. So I came up with this. I kinda like it.”
Wyatt’s Song Wyatt jumped an apple Wyatt jumped a pear Wyatt jumped so high He landed on a bear The two of them tangoed The two of them went to war The two of them discoed Until they were sore The bear was hungry The bear was scared The bear ran in circles In his underwear Wyatt looked at the bear And let out his biggest breath His best friend took one sniff And dove under the bed Come on out teddy. It’s time for bed.
Rachel smiled. “It’s the best you have done so far. Are there more?”
“Not for Wyatt. That’s it.” He smiled slyly. “I do have one more tune though. It’s more of an adult thing. Still a bit goofy but it works.”
Another Round Of Gin I put one and one together, Trying to piece it out I put two and two together, It made them scream and shout I could keep using numbers I could say it with a grin Bartender bring me Another round of gin I stood there playing tunes Late into the night Raising such a ruckus Filling them with delight Boom Boom I said Just to get me in Bartender bring me Another round of gin I stood there late at night On that lonely stage Singing with great gusto All the latest greatest rage Didn't see it coming Much to my chagrin Bartender bring my friends Another round of gin
Rachel clapped. “I can see that one being a favorite at one of your shows.”
“Thank you. I like it.” Zach got up and moved towards the stairs.
“Where are you going now?” asked Rachel.
“I am going to get some gin and celebrate finishing these songs.”
“I am right with you,” she said as she rushed up the stairs humming one of the songs.

What fun, Bill! I enjoyed them all, but especially liked the last one. That's one catchy tune. 😊 It got me smiling.
Enjoyed this very much! 😄
